Counselling Therapies 

I have been trained in a variety of therapy techniques and encourage my clients to work with me collaboratively in identifying which way we might work together. It is very difficult to predict how many sessions an individual may need but as a rough guide I would suggest six sessions and then a review. The sessions are usually once weekly and last for 50 minutes.I am based halfway between Bristol and Weston Super Mare and the cost of sessions is between £45 and £60 pounds per hour. 
 
Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR) EMDR is a highly-regarded evidence-based treatment. Scientific research has established EMDR as effective for post traumatic stress disorders and has also been successfully applied in the treatment of pain, phobias, panic and a variety of anxiety disorders including performance anxiety, complicated grief, sexual and/or physical abuse and disturbing memories. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Trauma-Focussed CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), focusses on the traumatic experience. Traumatic experiences cannot be changed but effective therapy can change how the individual thinks about it and their future. The therapist helps talks things through whilst ensuring the prevention of overwhelm. By talking it through, it helps in assigning memories in the correct part of the brain. 
 
Rewind Therapy – A technique used to eliminate or reduce the impact of a traumatic event. It assists in viewing the event, from a distance, whilst being fully in control to switch the viewing to rapid rewind or fast forward. 
IRRT – Exposure to the event/s through the imagination with a view to moving forward to changing the experience to a more acceptable viewing of the event/s through a current perspective. The individual will complete questionnaires between sessions and be self-aware of their effective coping strategies. 
 
PE – Prolonged Exposure helps to confront safe but anxiety evoking situations in order to overcome PTSD symptoms with the central role of successfully processing the traumatic memory. 
Relational Therapy – At the centre of this approach is the therapeutic relationship where I will work with empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard to offer ways to integrate your thoughts, feelings and reflections on your difficulties. 
 
Brief Solution-focussed Therapy focuses on the present and future circumstances and goals rather than past experiences. It does not target the symptoms and causes but is a goal-oriented therapy.
